CSA box #2

ImageHooray! CSA box #2! Tons more green…with a little red in there too.

Contents included: zucchini, red chard, romaine lettuce, kohlrabi, spring asian turnips, dill, chioggia beets, cilantro and cilantro.

Things in this box that I don’t typically eat/cook: beets, turnips, chard and kohlrabi. Let the googling for recipes begin!

CSA box #1 of 2012!

It’s time for another summer of  the CSA Featherstone Farm, and yesterday was the first box of the season… and it was AWESOME!

Contents: fresh oregano, garlic chives, garlic scapes, strawberries, mixed greens, green leaf lettuce, spinach, french breakfast radishes and asparagus! No rhubarb… awesome!

We (strategically) had a lot of room in our fridge and I put the oregano in jars to keep them fresh. We’ll see how it turns out.

I’m excited to see (eat) the boxes of the rest of the summer.

CSA box #21: the final box!

The final Featherstone Farm CSA box of the year.

Contents: spaghetti squash, carrots, delicata (?) squash, red kabocha squash, organic regent apples, onions, garlic, watermelon radish, cauliflower, salad mix beets and broccoli.

The box deserved a better photograph but Fridays are busy! If I do a CSA next year, I won’t do do a Friday pick up if I can avoid it. But either way, I’ll miss the amazingly delicious organic produce that we pick up once a week, delivered from a farm two hours away.

The beauty of the CSA is that we didn’t have to do any work; no decisions to make at the store, no waking up at 730am on a Saturday to beat the crowds at the farmers market (though I miss that).

If you are in the Twin Cities and looking for a CSA, I highly recommend signing up for one through Featherstone FarmIn my photos, the GRANDE size box is featured and I bought a summer share; but they have all different sizes and seasons.

Time to meal plan.

CSA box #20

This is a box to woo me to renew for next year. Contents: radishes, carrots, leaf lettuce, leeks, sweet dumpling squash, pie pumpkin, arugula, cauliflower, broccoli and red potatoes.

I think this might be the next to last box we get! Time to plan our meals around these veggies now.

CSA box #19

In the box this week: salad mix, two (delicata?) squash, beets, acorn squash, cilantro, carrots, onions, garlic, french breakfast radishes, broccoli.

I’m really excited about the acorn squash- I think I’ll make some sort of squash soup using a few of the squash and that cilantro. And I’m sure Brent will be excited about those radishes, and I can bet that he will try to use them in his breakfast due to the name.

Sorry Mom, the beets are back a few weeks too late.

CSA box #18

Ok, so apparently this is the 4th to last box? I’m confused. But happy to know veggies will still be coming our way.

This week: mustard greens, delicata squash, buttercup squash, green leaf lettuce, broccoli, red onions, parsley, garlic, savoy cabbage, carrots and radishes.

It’s squash week, clearly.

CSA box #17

Well I am feeling overwhelmed with the amount of food that was in this box… and that we’ve barely made a dent in last week’s box, but this box looks spectacular.

Contents: red grape cheery tomatoes, bok choi, carrots, arugula, edamame, broccoli, salad mix, red leaf lettuce, onions, red potatoes, sweet dumpling squash and spaghetti squash.

I think this might be the second to last CSA box we get. I bet I’ll miss being overwhelmed.

CSA box #16

This box is a mix of summer and fall and includes: beets, basil, edamame, red kabocha squash, watermelon, leaf lettuce, red grape tomatoes, pepper mix, cabbage, green beans and onions.

Our newsletter let us know this will be the last of the basil, green beans, watermelon and tomatoes as we already had our first frost. Oh well, bring on the squash!

CSA box #15

This is a few days late and this is not the best picture of the wonderful contents of CSA box #15, but Friday I was in a rush (trying to pack for a weekend wedding 4 hours away!), and forgot to pick the box up… twice!  I’m glad I remembered.

Contents: butternut squash, onions, broccoli, a watermelon, green beans, lettuce, red tomatoes, tomatoes from our plant (not the CSA box but they snuck in the photo!), red potatoes, heriloom tomatoes, san marzano tomatoes, and garlic.

We are expecting some fall-like evenings this week so I look forward to roasting that squash.

CSA box #14

Contents: raspberries, green beans, dill, one zucchini, beets, sugar baby watermelon, leeks, and ruby green tomatoes and an unknown kind of heirloom tomatoes.

I don’t see too many main ingredient items for meals in this weeks box, but you can’t win ’em all. On the other hand, I can’t wait to eat those raspberries.
